I am very proud of you with your exercise this week. If you could exercise like this every week, it would be ecstatic. How did you feel after doing six cardio sessions — were you more tired than usual?

As far as your cycling question, use both high and low gears with 80 to 90 rpm. Depending on the terrain, there will be times you will need to use a wide range of gears and pedal speeds. This is good because it uses different parts of your muscles and energy systems. Variety is a great benefit of outdoor cycling. Keep up the great work. Talk to you next week.

Dear Paula,

Congratulations on losing another 1ВЅ pounds. You are still eating about 1,500 calories a day, with 25-30 grams of fat, on the average. You are eating a diet that is 20 percent fat. I noticed the wider variety of fruits — watermelon, plum, tangerine — all of which give you loads of nutrition for very little calories.

Beware of Chinese food, especially fried rice. I noticed you ate very small portions. I’m surprised the Outback fat content didn’t give you indigestion — but you saved the day by ordering the grilled chicken. You had no protein on Saturday (kind of odd eating day), but you got adequate protein on other days. Continue to stay attentive to your hunger signals — if you eat when you are not hungry, tell me why!
